KAREN KEVRA, founder and Artistic Director of Capital City Concerts, has won attention as one of the nation's outstanding flutists through her distinctive warm and extroverted performances as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been hailed as "having a musical focus and depth seen in few flutists anywhere.
Her debut recording Works for flute and Piano of Louis Moyse, earned a 2003 Grammy nomination and accolades from numerous American Record reviewers. She has performed performances on French National Television, at Carnegie Hall, and at the French Embassy in Washington D.C., and her chamber engagements have included appearances with the Borromeo String Quartet, The Paris Piano Trio, and with violinists Arturo Delmoni, Eugene Drucker and Jaime Laredo.
Ms. Kevra has recorded for the Albany, CRI, New World Records, and Elektra labels and is represented by CHL Artists Management of Los Angeles, California. Ms. Kevra resides in Montpelier with her son the violinist Owen Kevra-Lenz. Luis Grinhauz was born in Entre Rios, Argentina. After receiving his diplomas and the Gold Medal from the Conservatory of Buenos Aires and with the aid of scholarships from the Fullbright Foundation and the American States Organization he pursued his studies at Indiana University with Josef Gingold and obtained the Performer’s Diploma in 1969. The following year Mr. Grinhauz won the First Prize at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. Mr. Grinhauz took up reside in Montreal in 1970. He is assistant concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. A well known pedagogue, his students are well known performers of the new generation.
He has performed widely as soloist and playing chamber music in Canada, the Americas, Israel, Switzerland, Germany and guest concertmaster in Spain. He is a founding member of Musica Camerata Montreal and Le Trio de Montreal ; he has recorded several CDs with both groups and is often heard through the CBC and Radio-Canada. He is married to concert pianist Berta Rosenohl with whom he shares an important musical career. With their son Leo they perform as the Grinhauz Trio. Mr. Grinhauz plays on a violin made by Gioffredo Cappa in 1691.
Marieve Bock studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal with Denis Brott, where she received the Prix avec Grande Distinction à l’unanimité in 2002. She then pursued her studies at Rice University Shepherd School of Music in Houston (Texas) with professor Norman Fischer and obtained the Master of Music Degree (2005). Marieve has worked with members of the Juilliard, Concord, Emerson and Cleveland String Quartets. She recently played in masterclass for Lynn Harrell, YoYo Ma and Pieter Wispelwey. She premiered several Canadian works for string quartet with Espace Music Society in Ottawa and won top prizes at the Canadian Music Competition, the Festival Concours and CBC’s Jeunes Artistes. Recently, she performed with visual artists and with the Mark Morris Dance Group-New York. She also appeared as a soloist with the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal and her performance was broadcasted by Radio-Canada. Last August, she had the chance to play in Japan with the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Berta Rosenohl, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was awarded the prestigious scholarship from the Mozarteum, an Argentinian concert organization, in 1968. This enabled her to study piano at Indiana University with Alfonso Montecino and chamber music with Janos Starker and William Primrose.
Settling in Montreal in 1970, Ms. Rosenohl is very much involved in the city’s musical life. Together with cellist Guy Fouquet, and her husband Luis Grinhauz she formed "Le Trio de Montréal , a chamber music ensemble well known in Canada and abroad. She appeared several times as soloist with the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Pro Arte Orchestra in Montreal and with the Sherbrooke University Orchestra.
She is often heard coast to coast through the CBC and has made numerous recordings. Ms. Rosenohl is a co-founder of Musica Camerata Montreal. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Americas and Israel as a chamber musician and recitalist. |
