VAN ARMENIAN, violin - Having served as concertmaster of two of the top orchestras of its category, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan (under Charles Dutoit) and the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado, Van Armenian is currently a principal substitute with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and a member of Musica Camerata de Montréal. Born in Alberta, to Armenian parents, Van completed his "premier prix" at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec, with highest honours in the studio of Jean Angers. He furthered his studies at the New England Conservatory with Malcolm Lowe (concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) on an FCAR fellowship, obtaining a Graduate Diploma with distinction in performance. He has participated in master classes with top musicians such as William Preucil, Joseph Silverstein, Jaime Laredo and Menahem Pressler. Van has taken part in several international music festivals, notably the Orford Arts Centre, SHIRA (Israel) and the Sarasota Music Festival (Florida). Solo appearances include performances with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado. He has served as guest concertmaster with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Orchestra and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, among others. Van has performed in Europe, Japan, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States as a recitalist.
LAMBERT CHEN, viola - Lambert Chen was born in Taiwan but resides in Montreal. He finished his post doctoral studies at McGill University in Montreal awhere he studied with André Roy. Chen is the winner of many prizes: OSM Standard Life in 2007, the Golden Violin that consists in a scholarship of $20.000 given by Patron of the Arts at McGill University, Mr.Seymour Schulich. Chen has been associate principal violist of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra since 2009.
SYLVAIN MURRAY, cello has been a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra since 2007.Previously he was a member of Les Violons du Roy and a stage manager of McGill University. He is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music in Chicoutimi and McGill University where he was a student of Antonio Lysy. Awards and scholarships: Music Academy of the West in 1996 and CIBC competition in 1993. He is co-artistic director of the Société de Musique de Chambre de Québec.
LUIS GRINHAUZ was born in Entre Rios, Argentina. After receiving his diplomas and the Gold Medal from the Conservatory of Buenos Aires and with the aid of scholarships from the Fullbright Foundation and the American States Organization he pursued his studies at Indiana University with Josef Gingold and obtained the Performer’s Diploma in 1969. The following year Mr. Grinhauz won the First Prize at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. Mr. Grinhauz took up reside in Montreal in 1970. He is assistant concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. A well known pedagogue, his students are well known performers of the new generation.
He has performed widely as soloist and playing chamber music in Canada, the Americas, Israel, Switzerland, Germany and guest concertmaster in Spain. He is a founding member of Musica Camerata Montreal and Le Trio de Montreal ; he has recorded several CDs with both groups and is often heard through the CBC and Radio-Canada. He is married to concert pianist Berta Rosenohl with whom he shares an important musical career. With their son Leo they perform as the Grinhauz Trio. Mr. Grinhauz plays on a violin made by Gioffredo Cappa in 1691.
BERTA ROSENOHL, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was awarded the prestigious scholarship from the Mozarteum, an Argentinian concert organization, in 1968. This enabled her to study piano at Indiana University with Alfonso Montecino and chamber music with Janos Starker and William Primrose.
Settling in Montreal in 1970, Ms. Rosenohl is very much involved in the city’s musical life. Together with cellist Guy Fouquet, and her husband Luis Grinhauz she formed "Le Trio de Montréal , a chamber music ensemble well known in Canada and abroad. She appeared several times as soloist with the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Pro Arte Orchestra in Montreal and with the Sherbrooke University Orchestra.
She is often heard coast to coast through the CBC and has made numerous recordings. Ms. Rosenohl is a co-founder of Musica Camerata Montreal. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Americas and Israel as a chamber musician and recitalist.
